August 1, 2025 - Driving from Alaska to Maryland
Visiting Friends in Decateur, Indiana

 

Departing Chicago, we headed for Decateur, Indiana to visit old friends Jayne and Bob.   The four hour drive seemed short.

We had fun with Jayne and Bob playing hearts, racquetball, eating out and all the usual stuff.

Jayne and Bob's son John works for a company that builds boats.  John helped build this one.

The next morning we drove home -- about a nine hour drive.  After what we've driven the last two months, no big deal!  And with that, our road trip to Alaska and back was done.  And what a trip!  We put 13,000 miles on the minivan, which never missed a beat.  We saw five National Parks:  Banff, Olympic, Mt. Ranier, Glacier and Thedore Roosevelt.  We saw over ten bears, two bison herds and one elk herd.  We saw the fabulous Butchart Gardens, three aviation museums, Mackinac Island and Niagara Falls.  Plus other attractions too numerous to list.
